Die Nekropole wurde zwischen 1958 und 1960 als zentrale Sammelst\u00e4tte f\u00fcr die \u00dcberreste von franz\u00f6sischen Soldaten aus dem Ersten und Zweiten Weltkrieg errichtet. Unmittelbar daneben liegt der Deutsche Soldatenfriedhof Colmar, der 868 deutsche Soldaten aus dem Zweiten Weltkrieg beherbergt.
